Description

Masjid Quba (مسجد قباء) is located on the outskirts of Madinah, and is one of the oldest mosques in the world as it was built in the 7th century. It is considered to be one of the holiest sites for Muslims around the world after The Two Holy Mosques.

Importance in Islam

Quba Mosque has a significant place in Islamic history and is also mentioned in the Holy Quran as being the mosque that was built on ‘piety’. It was also where The Prophet Muhammad, Peace and Blessings of God Be Upon Him (PBUH) and his companion Abu Bakr (RA) first stayed after migrating to Madinah. Moreover it is believed that the first stones of the mosque were position by The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) himself when he came to Madinah.

Narrated Ibn Umar: “The Prophet (PBUH) used to go to the Mosque of Quba (sometimes) walking and sometimes riding.” Added Nafi (in another narration), “He then would offer two Rakat (in the Mosque of Quba).” [Sahih Al-Bukhari]

The Prophet (PBUH) said: “He who purifies himself at his home and comes to Masjid Quba and offers two rakats therein, will be rewarded the reward of an Umrah (lesser pilgrimage).” [Sunan ibn Majah]

Architecture & Expansion

Since its construction, the mosque has undergone many renovations under the many caliphs, and later, the Saudi government itself. Made from white marble, the alabaster structure looks contemporary yet simple at the same time. The mosque is characterized by its six domes and four minarets.

There is a large praying hall that surrounds a central courtyard which is made up of black, white, and red marble. The courtyard has several entrances, among which the northern section is reserved as a women’s praying area. The mosque can accommodate more than 20 thousand worshippers at a time. It is now due to be extended again to a much larger size to accommodate more worshipers from around the world, Insha'Allah

The Quba Walkway Park

Masjid Quba is a 10-minute drive from Al-Masjid an-Nabawi. However, there is now a new purpose made walkway from near Al Masjid An Nabawi to Masjid Quba which takes approximately 40-45 minutes on foot. The starting point from the Al Masjid An Nabawi side is from the new Quba Walkway Park.

I had the privilege of visiting Masjid Quba, and it was a truly spiritual and memorable experience. This historic mosque, known as the 'Mosque of Quba,' holds a special place in Islamic history, being the first mosque built by Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him)when he migrated to Medina for the first time. The mosque and its surroundings are beautifully maintained, and the architecture is stunning. I read somewhere.. once companion of prophet ask " that those who were in mecca have more chance to perform umrha and it is easy for them..and what for us here in Medina" so prophet (pbuh) replied " those who who will perform 2 rakat of nafil here in this Quba masjid it will be equivalent with that sawab.

One of the best places to visit in islam, we went just before sunrise and it wasn't as busy it did get busier layer as groups started to arrive. The washroom and ablution area is nice and clean, and the praying area for women is also good. We even went to Quba avenue and got a bargain on some men and women perfume and some bukhoor scents. Must visit x

This is the first mosque in the world built by the muslims. Al-Bukhari (1193) and Muslim (1399) narrated that Ibn ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to go to the mosque of Quba every Saturday, walking or riding. According to a report narrated by Muslim, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to go to the mosque of Quba walking or riding, and he would pray two rak’ahs there. Al-Tirmidhi (324) narrated from Usayd ibn Zuhayr al-Ansari, who was one of the Companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Prayer in the mosque of Quba is like ‘Umrah.” (Classed as sahih by al-Albani in Sahih al-Tirmidhi) (Reference: islamqa.info) This is a large mosque with good parking area and large abolition area. Prayer places for both males and females are present. During Hajj and Ramadan seasons it gets very busy. May Allah bless all of us.

The mosque itself is very beautiful and historically significant. Adjacent park is also very beautiful and ideal for a walk or for kids to play. Different shops nearby and ample parking available. Everyone must visit this important ziarat location.
