Description

Masjid Quba (مسجد قباء) is located on the outskirts of Madinah, and is one of the oldest mosques in the world as it was built in the 7th century. It is considered to be one of the holiest sites for Muslims around the world after The Two Holy Mosques.

Importance in Islam

Quba Mosque has a significant place in Islamic history and is also mentioned in the Holy Quran as being the mosque that was built on ‘piety’. It was also where The Prophet Muhammad, Peace and Blessings of God Be Upon Him (PBUH) and his companion Abu Bakr (RA) first stayed after migrating to Madinah. Moreover it is believed that the first stones of the mosque were position by The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) himself when he came to Madinah.

Narrated Ibn Umar: “The Prophet (PBUH) used to go to the Mosque of Quba (sometimes) walking and sometimes riding.” Added Nafi (in another narration), “He then would offer two Rakat (in the Mosque of Quba).” [Sahih Al-Bukhari]

The Prophet (PBUH) said: “He who purifies himself at his home and comes to Masjid Quba and offers two rakats therein, will be rewarded the reward of an Umrah (lesser pilgrimage).” [Sunan ibn Majah]

Architecture & Expansion

Since its construction, the mosque has undergone many renovations under the many caliphs, and later, the Saudi government itself. Made from white marble, the alabaster structure looks contemporary yet simple at the same time. The mosque is characterized by its six domes and four minarets.

There is a large praying hall that surrounds a central courtyard which is made up of black, white, and red marble. The courtyard has several entrances, among which the northern section is reserved as a women’s praying area. The mosque can accommodate more than 20 thousand worshippers at a time. It is now due to be extended again to a much larger size to accommodate more worshipers from around the world, Insha'Allah

The Quba Walkway Park

Masjid Quba is a 10-minute drive from Al-Masjid an-Nabawi. However, there is now a new purpose made walkway from near Al Masjid An Nabawi to Masjid Quba which takes approximately 40-45 minutes on foot. The starting point from the Al Masjid An Nabawi side is from the new Quba Walkway Park.

Masjid Quba is a special place in Medina that's totally amazing. When I went there, I felt this incredible sense of peace and tranquility. The mosque is beautiful, with a lot of open space and a welcoming atmosphere. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said something really cool about Masjid Quba. He said, "Whoever purifies himself in his house and comes to Masjid Quba and offers two rak'ahs therein, will have a reward like that of an 'Umrah." (Sahih Muslim 713) The road leading to Masjid Quba is like a pleasant stroll. It's called the Quba Walk Road, and it's lined with trees, making it a refreshing walk. I enjoyed taking my time, soaking in the surroundings. As I entered Masjid Quba, I felt a sense of history and spirituality. The architecture is simple yet beautiful, and the courtyard is spacious. I made sure to offer two rak'ahs, following the Prophet's advice. The atmosphere around Masjid Quba is serene. There's a peaceful feeling as people pray, read Quran, and reflect. The cool thing is that even if you just visit and relax, you get immense blessings.

The parking area is quite far from the mosque and very dusty. There are lots of people selling their wares to you all the way from the mosque to your bus. Buying dates and strawberries here tastes very delicious.

It is great to visit first Masjid built by our Prophet Muhammad (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) while he migrated to Madinah. It is not far from Prophet’s masjid around 3.5~4 km. It is well maintained masjid alhamdulillah , may Allah bless who are involved to keep this clean and tidy. You will feel the tranquility while visiting the masjid.

Phenomenal experience coming to the first mosque ever built. The mosque itself is beautiful as it has both an open area as well as a domed indoor section. The dome is build directly on top of the area where the prophet PBH camel Kiswa sat down. The carpets are clean as well as ample space to move around, even during busy season. There is zam Zam available on tap as well which is a great addition to the area itself. The outside of the mosque is white and has a visible dome that can be seen from vast areas of medina. There is also a path called the "Sunnah path" which was taken by the prophet PBH while walking from and to this mosque. You can take very same dedicated path to the mosque.
