Description

The Archers’ Hill is a small mountain located in front of Mount Uhud. The hill is also known as Jabal al-Rumah and Jabal Ainain. A lot of Islamic history is tied to both the hill and the mountain because of the famous Battle of Uhud that took place here in the 7th century. In the battle, 50 archers that were posted on the Archers' Hill went against the command of the Prophet Muhammad Peace Be Upon Him (PBUH), which resulted in the Muslims losing the battle.

Battle of Uhud and the Archers Hill

Mount Uhud and Archers' Hill are popular among Muslim pilgrims who visit Medina. During the battle, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) ordered 50 archers to stay on the hill where they were supposed to protect the Muslim army from the opposing army's attack. The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) gave the archers strict instructions not to move. However, during the battle, the archers deserted their post thinking the battle was over and went to collect the spoils of war. At the same time, the Meccan army, led by Khalid ibn al-Walid, attacked the Muslims, which resulted in a great loss of life and injuries to the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

The martyrs of the Battle of Uhud are also buried in a graveyard situated near the hill. A visit to this hill is sacred to Muslims not just because of its military history but also because it is a reminder of the harsh consequences of disobeying the beloved Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

Mount Uhud is approximately 7 kilometers north of Medina's city center and reaches an elevation of around 1,077 meters (3,533 feet) above sea level. The mountain is mentioned in Islamic history as a significant location where the Prophet Muhammad and his companions faced a crucial battle. Today, it serves as a popular site for tourists and pilgrims interested in exploring its historical and religious significance. Mount Uhud is not only a symbol of historical significance but also holds spiritual importance for Muslims. It's considered a blessed site due to its association with the Prophet Muhammad and the companions who fought alongside him during the Battle of Uhud. Many Muslims visit the mountain to reflect on the sacrifices made by early Muslims and to seek blessings. Additionally, there is a cemetery at the foot of the mountain where some of the companions of the Prophet are buried, adding to its sacred atmosphere.

Five kilometers north of Madinah Masjid Nawabi is the desert of Uhud. The Battle of Ohud took place exactly one year after the Battle of Badr. This battle was fought between the non-Muslims of Mecca and the Muslims of Medina. In the desert of Uhud, the Quraysh brutally martyred the Holy Prophet (PBUH) and wounded him. Seventy companions including Hazrat Hamza (RA) and Hazrat Aqeel Ibn Umayya (RA) were martyred in this battlefield. Hazrat Amir Hamza (RA) and Hazrat Aqeel (RA) were buried in the same grave.Later a beautiful mosque was built in Uhud desert. In front of the mosque is the cemetery of the martyrs of the Ohud war.Pilgrims visit the graves of martyrs in Ohud desert.

This beautiful and peaceful place is a remnant of the history of the Prophet's war in the battle of Uhud. The hill of the archers, the hill that houses a team of archers for the Muslim army of Medina against the polytheists of Mecca. There is a lesson behind the story on this hill. May heaven be for these syuhada.
