Description

Riyadh National Zoo is one of the most popular and favorite tourist attractions for families in Riyadh. It was opened in the late 1980s, and its popularity has only increased since then. It is locally known as Malaz Zoo. The zoo has more than 1500 animals and 80 species of birds that have different geographic origins. The administration has tried its best to preserve the natural wildlife environment as these animals are seen wandering freely in their artificially created habitats. Riyadh Zone is also one of the zones featured in Riyadh Season.

Attractions and Facilities

The highlight of the zoo is the train ride. There are two mini kids’ trains that take the children for a 20 minutes train ride and give them a tour of the zoo. Inside the zoo, you will get to see panthers, lions, tigers, gorillas, chimpanzees, elephants, crocodiles, zebras, giraffes, flamingos, and many more animals. The zoo also has the famous Bengal tigers that are native to the Indian subcontinent. You will find the African houbara in the zoo as well, a bird that is almost extinct in Saudi Arabia.

There is a prayer hall, restaurants, cafes, ice-cream outlets, and toilets inside the vicinity for the visitors. It is a great educational trip for the children where they can learn about animals while watching them in real life. Just before the zoo closes, you can see two harbor seals demonstrating their talents to get hold of food from their trainer.

Zoo Timings

Visiting the zoo is better during winters as in summers the weather is too hot, and the animals prefer to stay out of sight in the shade. The zoo closes at Maghrib prayers during weekdays and remains closed on Sundays.

Summer of 2023 weekday visit. Bring an umbrella, a hat and extra cold water bottles. It will be a hot visit, but realize it is even hotter for the animals. I arrived by taxi. Make sure you get a green teal colored cab and not somebody random. A short trip from my hotel, but it was nice not to have to walk there since I would be walking once I arrived. I purchased my ticket at the outside counter and immediately filled that the space was friendly and safe. There are many staff around cleaning cages and feeding a variety of animals and birds. I spent 2 hours and 15 minutes exploring the grounds with a temperature of 110°. It was not busy today, no li es and very few people in thenpark today. There are numerous places to grab a bite to eat throughout the zoo. The gift shop is geared mainly toward children's gifts. I saw: lions, tigers, leopards, black leopards, bears, elephants, giraffes, zebras, hippos, antelope, a variety of parakeets and other birds, raccoons, monkeys, apes, sea lions, goats, donkeys, flamingos and too much more to list. Toilet facilities were available in a several places throughout the park. I used the one at the entrance. I only wishbit were cooler and there was more water pools in each cage foe the animals to cool down. I truly had an amazing visit seeing so many animals in such a small place with no lines whatsoever. It was easy to get a cab home. Make sure the cab's meter is working and they have adequate seatbelts.

Best Zoo experience in KSA. Variety of animals, reptiles and birds. Beautifully made to chill out with family, especially with kids. Wish if there were some snakes too?

Riyadh zoo, a nice place to be with family n kids. Lot of animals and birds to see there. View points are provided with shades to avoid direct sunlight. Some animals you can feed and it's written on the boards clearly. Proper ways are marked with sign boards. Well maintained and places to sit. But the shops cafes not good I would say and needs much improvement in food variety. Free parking available on site but can be full in public holidays. Online and onsite both tickets available.

As a Google guide, I recently visited Riyadh Zoo and was pleasantly surprised by the variety of animals and attractions on offer. The zoo is well-maintained and has a good selection of wildlife from around the world, including lions, tigers and elephants. The enclosures are spacious and appear to be designed with the animals' welfare in mind. In addition to the animal exhibits, the zoo has several play areas for children, as well as food and drink outlets. I particularly enjoyed the bird exhibit, which had a wide range of exotic birds and provided a unique opportunity to get up close to them. Overall, I would highly recommend a visit to Riyadh Zoo, whether you are a local resident or a tourist. The entrance fee is affordable, and there is plenty to see and do for visitors of all ages. The only downside is that the zoo can get quite crowded, so it's best to arrive early in the day to avoid the crowds. XOXO
