Description

The Al Faisaliah Centre is a commercial skyscraper and complex located in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This tower is 267 meters high with 55 stories and is famous for being the first skyscraper to be built in Saudi Arabia.

Structure

Shaped like an elongated pyramid, the building looks futuristic, especially at night as it stands out from afar. The tower is famous for the enormous glass globe that is located near the apex. The globe is 24 meters in diameter and is made of 655 glass panels. Another famous element of this building is its lobby’s monumental stained-glass walls that were designed by artist Brian Clarke. Currently, the tower is the fourth tallest in Saudi Arabia and ranks as the 325th tallest building in the world.

Inside the Tower

Inside the tower are a five-star hotel, apartments, restaurants, offices, the Sky shopping mall, and a viewing platform. From the viewing platform, tourists can marvel at the Riyadh skyline. This activity alone attracts the biggest number of tourists, as it is not every day that you get to be on top of one of the biggest cities in the world. Access to the tower is limited, and it is only open from 12 pm to 4 pm, and you have to pay a fee of 63 Saudi riyals in order to go up. With some of the best food and an amazing atmosphere, the tower is among the top places tourists should visit if they are in the city.

The Globe is advertised (ONLINE) as being part of Mandarin Oriental chain of hotels but it appears to be actually part of Faisaliah Hotel, Riyadh and if there is a connection between the two then it is not confirmed by hotel staff and also not visible in branding anywhere across the building. Anyhow, we went for afternoon tea and found it to be a nice enough experience. The food is all vegetarian and well presented. The 360 views are stunning and one can see the architectural contrast across the city centre (for those interested in that sort of thing). Afternoon tea is well presented and staff are very well trained on how to give a good customer experience. I would definitely go back for the experience and the views and not so much for the food.

We planned a week ago but due to fog, I rescheduled my booking. We wanted to see sunset while in the globe. We booked for high tea and it ends at 6pm. There was good variety of sweets and snacks. I tried Latte and it was good. Sushi was just ok. Sweets were tasty. Kids enjoyed fruit & marshmallows on the stick and dipping it in the chocolate. I enjoyed the environment. Service was good too.
