Description

Riyadh National Zoo is one of the most popular and favorite tourist attractions for families in Riyadh. It was opened in the late 1980s, and its popularity has only increased since then. It is locally known as Malaz Zoo. The zoo has more than 1500 animals and 80 species of birds that have different geographic origins. The administration has tried its best to preserve the natural wildlife environment as these animals are seen wandering freely in their artificially created habitats. Riyadh Zone is also one of the zones featured in Riyadh Season.

Attractions and Facilities

The highlight of the zoo is the train ride. There are two mini kids’ trains that take the children for a 20 minutes train ride and give them a tour of the zoo. Inside the zoo, you will get to see panthers, lions, tigers, gorillas, chimpanzees, elephants, crocodiles, zebras, giraffes, flamingos, and many more animals. The zoo also has the famous Bengal tigers that are native to the Indian subcontinent. You will find the African houbara in the zoo as well, a bird that is almost extinct in Saudi Arabia.

There is a prayer hall, restaurants, cafes, ice-cream outlets, and toilets inside the vicinity for the visitors. It is a great educational trip for the children where they can learn about animals while watching them in real life. Just before the zoo closes, you can see two harbor seals demonstrating their talents to get hold of food from their trainer.

Zoo Timings

Visiting the zoo is better during winters as in summers the weather is too hot, and the animals prefer to stay out of sight in the shade. The zoo closes at Maghrib prayers during weekdays and remains closed on Sundays.

It's a nice place to spend with family and wide variety of animals well organized, neat and clean... But it's too hot now, better to go evening time. Car parking is opposite road side of Zoo. Carry your food, water, cold drinks and carpet as u get opportunity to enjoy on it on lawn inside.

Entry free and carry water with you. Riyadh Zoo offers a fascinating opportunity to experience wildlife in the heart of the city. Situated in a spacious park, the zoo is home to a diverse collection of animals from around the world. The zoo's layout is well-planned, with ample walking paths and green spaces, making it a pleasant place for families to explore. Visitors can encounter a variety of animals, including lions, elephants, giraffes, zebras, and many more. The enclosures are generally spacious and well-maintained, providing a comfortable habitat for the animals. Educational signs throughout the zoo offer interesting facts about the different species, enhancing the learning experience. One highlight of Riyadh Zoo is the bird aviary, where colorful parrots and other exotic birds can be observed up close. The zoo also features a reptile house and a small aquarium, adding diversity to the animal exhibits. While the zoo provides a good opportunity for recreational and educational outings, some visitors may find that certain areas could benefit from additional maintenance and upgrades. Additionally, it's advisable to visit during cooler times of the day, especially in the summer months, due to the desert climate. Overall, Riyadh Zoo offers an enjoyable and educational experience for families and animal enthusiasts alike, allowing visitors to appreciate and learn about a wide range of wildlife species.

They renovated it entirely , new species are added now ! However before I entered the lady who checked my bag literally threw my chips packet in the dustbin but literally allowed other bunch of children to carry the chips , very cheap behaviour of the staff not at all coordinating with the visitors.

Very impressed with the upkeep and maintenance. Informative. Variety of animals and they look fairly healthy. Entrance fee was free. Problem is there was only 1 convenient store open with a long queue! Also feed for animals was closed. Nice place for family and kids. Picnic areas available. They close the gates at 3:30pm
