Description

A'arif Fort is the oldest historical building in the city of Hail. It was built in order to guard the city against enemies. During the Saudi rule, the Fort was used for the sighting of the moon and firing the Iftar cannon in Ramadan. Recently, A'arif Fort was opened for tourists as a heritage site.

Architecture

A'arif Fort is a rectangular-shaped castle that is built with mud and clay. It is located in the heart of Hail and was constructed in the 17th century AD. The fortress occupies an area of about 440 square meters and is strategically located at a hilltop, which makes it visible from anywhere in the city. Sitting on the peak of Jabal Irf, the fortress offers a wonderful view of the northern city.

The Fort can be accessed through a gate from its southern side, where a small courtyard leads to the main entrance. Inside the fortress, you will find watchtowers, windows, a residential area, baths, a mosque, and warehouses.

This castle is also distinguished by its large wooden doors with inscriptions engraved on them. Tourists can climb to the top of the castle in order to have a bird's-eye view of the city and watch the farms, markets, and neighborhoods surrounding them.

This looks a nice building. But as of now, in jan 2022, its closed and being renovated. You cannot go and visit but sooner or later it should be open.
