Upon a friend’s recommendation, I recently dined at Al Samad Iraqi Restaurant, a gem nestled on Prince Sultan St. in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
The establishment beckons with an authentic Arabian allure, providing a comforting embrace that speaks to the heart of traditional Arabian hospitality.
The menu, a tapestry of culinary diversity, marries traditional Lebanese and Syrian appetizers with a selection of both cold and hot entrées, alongside signature Iraqi dishes. This delightful fusion also bears a striking resemblance to Turkish cuisine, not only in its varied offerings but in the very essence of its appearance, texture, and flavor. While the extensive variety is commendable, I believe the addition of visual representations would greatly enhance the selection process, particularly for those less acquainted with the intricacies of Mediterranean fare.
The service at Al Samad is nothing short of gracious, with complimentary lentil soup and freshly baked Arabian bread that arrives hot and crisp, a testament to the generosity ingrained in the restaurant’s ethos. A special mention must be made of Mr. Ahmad Abu Gayed, whose warm smile and attentive welcome significantly elevated the dining experience.
The portions served were as generous as they were delectable, leaving us thoroughly satisfied. However, I would be remiss not to mention an area ripe for refinement: the rice offerings. Despite presenting three varieties—white, red, and biryani—the white and red lacked distinctiveness in flavor. The biryani, in particular, strayed from its namesake, leaning more towards a Mediterranean blend than the robust, spiced dish one might expect.
In conclusion, the post-meal offerings of complimentary Iraqi tea and coffee were a delightful capstone to the evening. My overall experience at Al Samad Iraqi Restaurant warrants a solid four-star rating. The establishment’s commitment to quality, both in cuisine and service, ensures that I will return with great anticipation, especially to savor the traditional Iraqi maskoof fish dish that I have yet to experience. Kudos to the chef, the management, and the service team for crafting such a memorable culinary journey.
