Description

Situated about 200 kilometers northwest of Riyadh, near the town of Shagra, Ushaiger Heritage Village is one of the oldest villages in the region. The name ‘Ushaiger’, translates to ‘little blonde’ which comes from the nearby red mountain that stands tall, shadowing the yellow mud houses of the Ushaiger Heritage Village.

History and culture

Historically, the village has been a major stopping point for pilgrims coming from Kuwait because of its freshwater springs and because the clustered olive and palm trees in this region provide great shade. A museum established by the locals, called the Al Salem Museum, offers a glimpse into the heritage of the village with its famous weaponry, utensils, embroidered clothing, and jewelry.

The locals in Ushaiger Village are very hospitable and friendly and are usually always happy to help visitors. They have formed a small community that has developed its shops, mosques, and schools to cater to its needs. You should take a walk through the streets of this village to get a glimpse into the lives of the locals.

Divided into districts, some parts of the village even have renovated houses that provide a glimpse into the Najdi architecture with their carved wooden doors, triangular roofs, and beautiful windows. You can also drive up to the mountain road and enjoy a 360-degree view of the village from the top.

One of the best historical experiences I've had in KSA. The village is is beautifully renovated, not overdone. The experience of wandering through maze between mud houses is magical. Locals that stay in their ancestors' houses are incredibly friendly and welcoming.

Had a wonderful time visiting this place. We see a lot of foreign tourist coming in and explore the area. Some of the featured dwellings were closed though and are under repair. The museum curators were helpful in giving us information about the old village and its people. This spot is good for educational visit.

Well preserved heritage village around 200 km from capital city Riyadh. Well maintained and clean surroundings. There are many things to see around. They celebrate the heritage festival in April. A must visit place. There's a museum called Al Salem which will be a main attraction for all. Parking and other facility is on the site. Delighted to see this place.

Interesting to walk around the village, a mixture of restored and not restored houses and mosques. Not many people seem to be living here today. There is a small museum.
