The Spectacular Elephant Rock - Al Ula

4.7Reviews

Description

The Elephant Rock (Jabal AlFil) is one of the world’s most popular rocks formations and the highlight of the region of Al Ula, a city of the Madinah Province in Saudi Arabia. Looking at it from afar, this rocks seems like an elephant with a ground-bound trunk. The Elephant Rock is also known as Jabal-Al’fil in the Arabic language. Standing at a height of 52 meters, the giant rock climbs three stories into the Arabian sky. It is hard to look at the gargantuan Elephant Rock and not feel awestruck by its tremendous size.

Landscape

This mammoth stands out among the other hand-carved, ornate structures of nearby Hegra’s Nabataean tombs as it was shaped by natural forces. The trunk and body of this red sandstone beast were shaped through water and wind erosion that was caused over millions of years.

The huge elephant stands in a landscape of golden sands, surrounded by other rocky formations which are equally impressive in size. Regardless, the Elephant Rock still overshadows all that falls in its sight and acts as reminder of the sands of time. The beauty of this mighty elephant only increases at nightfall where it becomes more lifelike in the warm lights that have been installed at the site. Visiting the rock at night is advantageous to avoid the hot weather during the day.

Refreshment

There are some seating arrangements near the rock, with sunken sofa areas and the option to light a fire; visitors can sit and enjoy the music and mountains. Coffee shops are located nearby where drinks and snacks are available. Most of the food places open at 4 pm, therefore it is advised to carry water along with some snacks due to the hot weather.

One of the best places to visit in Al Ula. I can even say it is one of the best places in Saudi Arabia. I’m saying this without exaggeration. It is free to enter and has a lot of sitting area to relax. It has some coffees and a restaurant (salt). Nice music to relax and to peace ur mind. Try to go in the sunset ? it is something else. Bottom line .. STUNNING and a MUST SEE.

Simply amazing! If you're in Al'Ula you MUST go to elephant rock. The atmosphere there is super relaxing and I suggest going at around 7pm when there aren't too much people yet and you can get a bite and something to drink pretty quickly and easily. If you don't have a car or don't want to spend on a taxi there's a free bus leaving from winter park starting 4pm. The last ride is at about 1am. Impossible to reach on foot no matter where you are.

Beautiful site to visit whether day or night. The majestic elephant rock formation makes a terrific photograph. There are a number of restaurants by the side of the rock formation that offer food and drinks. At night, the lighting illuminates the rock formation and surrounding creating a different vibe altogether. A great place to chill and enjoy a drink

Stopped by here right around 4PM and had great views as the sun set! Park inn was plentiful and free and although there were many people there it didn’t feel crowded. The place was set up extremely well and had handicap accessible walkways. My husband and I enjoyed two iced teas (~20 SAR each) and sat in some of the bean bag chairs around the group seating in the dug outs. We enjoyed the music and cool December weather!

Amazing place. And done extremely tastefully by Saudi tourism. The ambiance and surroundings are awesome. Plus the dugout seating areas - genius! Bought dinner at Salt - not cheap but good, tasty and fairly fast. Great experience. Make sure you arrive am hope our so before sunset for the most amazing colours and shadows.
