Description

Located in Tabuk, Saudi Arabia, Tabuk Ottoman castle is an ancient castle that dates back to 1559 and is one of the most popular historical landmarks in Tabuk. The castle was renovated in 1993 and now serves as a museum that features gorgeous historical artifacts from the Ottoman era.

Historical Significance and Design

This fortress was built to protect the water station and provide security as it was one of the stations on the Syrian Hajj road welcoming the pilgrims. It has also been associated with famous travelers such as Ibn Battuta and Evliya Celebi.

The castle consists of two floors and features a mosque, a courtyard, and various rooms that display artifacts showcasing the history of Tabuk and the Ottoman era. Inside the castle, tourists will find a mosque on the ground floor and an open courtyard. There is also a stairway that provides access to the watchtowers and a second mosque, which is located on the second floor.

Attractions

You will see signs all around the castle that explain the history of Tabuk, its connection to the Prophet Muhammad Peace Be Upon Him (PBUH), and information regarding the battle of Tabuk.

The museum is open for visitors from 7 in the morning to 8 in the evening on weekdays. The tickets cost 50 Riyals, but children are allowed to enter for free. Guides are also available to give you an information-filled tour of this historic castle.
