Arch (Rainbow) Rock - Al Ula

4.7Reviews

Description

People visiting Al Ula should consider planning a trip to the Arch (Rainbow) Rock. This rock is one of the most recognizable natural rock formations in the region and is also becoming a popular destination for astro-tourism.

Landscape and Activities

It is called Rainbow Rock because it looks like an arch or a rainbow with two clouds. Near the Rainbow Rock are other rock formations as well that tourists can visit such as the Dancing Rocks which are two large rock pillars that appear to be dancing together.

The entire region of Al’Ula has low light pollution, which makes Rainbow Rock an ideal spot for camping and stargazing. Visitors can also look for semi-precious desert diamonds that are often found on the site. These colorful quartz pieces are embedded in the rock as well as scattered all around it. It is also a remarkable place to visit for people who love to photograph landscapes.

Location

Rainbow Rock or The Arch is a sandstone arch that is 90 minutes away from the town of Al’Ula. The path towards the site in the desert is not well paved and a 4x4 is recommended to get there. The bumpy ride also makes it more suitable for tourists visiting in groups instead of families. The site is isolated with no facilities; hence a short day trip should be planned.

A must visit. A magnificent and majestic landscape. We did not have enough time to explore the surrounding rock formations though. The whole area has a lot to offer.

It is a breathtaking place however getting there can be somewhat challenging because the roads are not very clear there are not many signs and you have to do some guessing using the Google map. Space mark however if you’re adventurous and you have more than one car as a back up I recommend the drive

Could you advise where I can find a local driver to take me to off-road sites, such as rainbow rock, dancing rocks, Al Gharameel, etc.? Thank you!
