Fayfa Mountain Hanging Village

Located in Jazan Province in the south west of Saudi Arabia,  Fayfa is famous for its towering mountains that rise over 2,000 meters above sea level and are referred to as “The Neighbors of the Moon” by the locals. The roads to these mountains often rise above the clouds in a spectacular fashion and the steep slopes also make it an ideal area for hiking. Al-Absiyya is the highest peak in the Fayfa mountain range that towers over the beautiful green fields and farms. 

The Village

The village of Fayfa hosts cylindrical mountain houses that are unique to this region. The locals have a tradition of giving each house a nickname and calling the owner of the house by the same name. The locals also have a unique dialect that originates from ancient literary Arabic which has evolved through the influence of the Himyarite language. The climate in the village is mild all year long, making it an ideal place for agriculture which is the main source of income for the locals.
