Asfan Fortress - Makkah Province in The Makkah Province

Description

Built in the 18th century, Asfan Fortress is located in the Asfan village, which is just a few kilometers north of Jeddah. The Ottoman army built it as a military outpost to monitor the road between Mecca and Medina.

Architecture

This 18th-century Ottoman fortress is situated on top of a small hill where its structure is preserved by the locals. Its placement is strategic, as it would have served as a good defensive position for warding off hostiles. It also houses ample storage for ammunition and has a great elevation for launching light artillery to the east. Plus, it is geographically protected by rocky hills on the left and complemented by excellent visibility to the right and has 12 circular structures along its walls for troops to climb.

It was a nice place. You can access this place in 1 hour from Jeddah and on the way to Moon Valley. You can park the vehicle, just beside the location.
