Description

Al Qarah Mountain, which is also known as "Jabal al Qarah" and "Al Shaban Mountain," is located in the Eastern Province, Al Ahsa, in Saudi Arabia and is a UNESCO world heritage site.

The caves

Al Qarah Mountain is known for its fascinating and unique caves that were formed due to the dissolving process of water-soluble rocks, the collapse of the upper rock layers as a result of abrasion, and earthquake fissures.

Some of the caves in the Al Qarah Mountain are particularly famous, like the Al Nashab cave, which has moderately steady temperatures throughout the year. Some caves are also used to hold workshops for local traditional potters. The caves have 28 tall linear passageways, which are a total of 1.5 kilometers in length.

Some of the most famous caves in the mountain include Bu Saleh, Al Eid, An Naqa, Al Mua'adhamah, and Al Maheub. Locals and tourists love to visit to admire the incredible heritage site and learn about the history by exploring the caves with tour guides.

Excellent place to visit. Parking is ample with plenty of signs to show you where to go. The staff are very friendly with tourist shops inside the reception area. Price was 75 SAR per person which is reasonable. Inside is a short but very detailed history of the area and people of importance from the region. Some nice artefacts are on display. The cave area is amazing and extremely cool once inside. Take some water as you walk round as the walk to and from can be quite hot. Highly recommended.

Nice place to visit. With their historical theme making it more attractive to visitors. Inside the cave is really cool around 22°~23°C considering outside temperature is above 40°C when we visited. Lighting inside the caves makes it really beautiful when taking pictures. Its best to visit the place around 5pm to enjoy outside surroundings. Trully a must destination to visit while in Saudi Arabia

I’ve been wanting to visit this place for awhile and finally I got the chance to go there this summer. We went late in the afternoon, just before sunset when the weather was starting to cool off. It was not to busy. It was worth the visit. As much as it is hot outside, inside the Hill it is very cool. There are coffee shops and restaurants near the Hill as well as in the visitor center. Update July 2023: update from my recent trip. Ticket prices did go up. Fun mirrors have been added. Downside: the bathrooms are disgusting and hot. I suggest that since this is marketed as a tourist place, they should hire bathroom cleaners to keep the bathrooms cleaned and supplied, and some sort of AC system installed.

It's very hot outside. And it is very cold inside the mountain. The heart is filled. You have to buy a ticket to go inside. But I didn't like their system. You have to go in groups. If you go alone or less than 10 people, it costs 57 Rials per person and if you go in a group of more than 10 people, you have to buy a ticket at 35 Rials per person.
