I had heard numerous reviews claiming that Gymkhana is currently the best Indian restaurant in Riyadh, so with a craving for Indian food, I decided to give it a try. The restaurant's interior is beautifully designed, but I found the lighting to be inadequate for the type of food served, making it difficult to fully appreciate the dishes.
I started with a few appetizers, including the Punjabi Samosa, Aloo Chaat, and Duck Egg Bhurji. A word of caution: the samosas were extremely spicy. For the main course, I ordered the Achari Paneer, Chicken Butter Masala, Kasoori Chicken Tikka, along with saffron rice, dal, raita, and naan.
I was initially disappointed with the presentation of most of the dishes. The portions were quite small, and it was challenging to distinguish between the different dishes. The paneer was particularly disappointing, as it was extremely dry and seemed overcooked. While the spice flavors were acceptable, some dishes, like the Aloo Chaat, were overly saucy.
Given the high prices, I had expected much more in terms of quality and presentation. Riyadh already boasts several excellent Indian restaurants, and unfortunately, Gymkhana did not make it into my top three. For those seeking Indian cuisine in the city, there are better options available.
