King Fahd Causeway (Jisr al-Malik Fahd) es una serie de puentes que tienen 15 millas de largo y conectan Arabia Saudita y Bahrein a través del Golfo Pérsico. La idea de construir este puente se concibió durante la década de 1950 para mejorar los vínculos y los lazos sociales y culturales entre Arabia Saudita y Bahrein. La construcción del puente se completó en 1986.

Estructura y paisaje

Los cinco puentes de esta calzada descansan sobre más de 500 pilones de hormigón. La calzada parece futurista con sus siete terraplenes en las aguas poco profundas del Golfo. Uno de estos terraplenes se llama Middle Island o Passport Island, que también es el más grande de todos. Se ha convertido en una isla artificial con aduanas e instalaciones de inmigración, mezquita, jardines y restaurantes. Esta isla también tiene una estación fronteriza que tiene un McDonald's en cada lado.

Viajando por la Calzada

Debido a COVID-19, el puente se cerró temporalmente en marzo de 2020 por seguridad pública. Sin embargo, fue reabierto el 17 de mayo de 2021; la gente tiene que seguir protocolos estrictos para viajar por este puente.

Conducir por la calzada es una excelente manera de viajar a Bahrein o Arabia Saudita desde cualquiera de los países, especialmente durante el atardecer y el amanecer. El puente brinda la experiencia de viajar a través del mar sin tener que abordar un barco o pasar por ningún mareo espantoso.

Beautiful bridge with greenish-blue sea. Bridge fees is SAR 25 or 2.5 BD one way. Can pay cash or card.

I recently travelled. The facilities and staff at Saudi side are very good and efficient, how ever the border staff at Bahrain side specially at bahrain exit for KSA are very arrogant and non cooperative. So i want to ask if some Bahraini authority is listening that the country that are having tourism as their one of mainstream economic source, they should remove all arrogant people from immigration counters.

This bridge is one of the brilliant masterpiece built in 1986 , and the name was kept as a token of respect in name of King Fahd bin Abdul Aziz (then) by then prime minister of bahrain Shaikh Isa bin Salman Al Khalifa. The bridge is called KING FAHAD CAUSEWAY. The Border Station was designed as two connected islands,with the west side designated as Saudi Arabian and the east as Bahraini. The Toll fees is Sar: 25/- as of 2023. Car insurance at Bahrain is around Sar: 42/-. we cant stop or park the var in between the borders. The best part is knowing that you are driving over a Deep ocean. The Dark color of water and the waves ? around the bridge gives some really beautiful and amazing views around.

The bridge itself is old. The process of passing through could benefit from major improvements. First, to replace the toll counters by a payment machine instead of a person (the employees at the Toll are almost always on their phone chatting with their friends). Second, replace the Saudi customs employees with educated people capable of behaving with good manners. Third, cancel the practice of handing out useless receipt papers at the kiosks (this is a practice done by the Saudi’s and not Bahraini’s).
