Masjid Al-Ghamamah is one of the oldest mosques in Medina, Saudi Arabia, located in the place believed to be where the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ performed an Eid prayer in the year 631. The mosque is one of the historical relics of Medina. The mosque was built during the reign of the Caliph Umar bin Abdul Aziz between the hijri calendar of 86 to 93 and later by many Muslim rulers.
Masjid Al Ghamāmah is located northwest of the Prophets Mosque.
It took its name after the clouds shaded the Prophet ﷺ while he was delivering his sermon.
It was rebuilt at the time of the Ottoman Sultan, Abdul Majīd in the year 1275 A.H./ 1859 A.D which is preserved until now.
The Mosque is of a rectangular shape built with Black Basalt stones and roofed with 11 domes. The domes and walls are white on the inside whereas the pillars and arcs are black which gives Masjid Al Ghamāmah a unique appearance.
