Al-Aqiq Pond is one of a series of ponds to collect rainwater on the path of pilgrims coming from Kufa to Mecca. It was built in places where rainwater was collected during the reign of Caliph Harun Al-Rashid during the Abbasid Caliphate, and by Zubaida, the wife of Caliph Harun Al-Rashid.
