Description

Zubaydah archaeological pool is named after one of the most famous Abbasid princesses and the wife of Caliph Harun ar-Rashid, Zubaidah bint Ja`far. This archeological site is a part of the Darb Zubaydah which is series of wells, reservoirs, and artificial pools that were built by princess Zubaydah to provide water for Muslim pilgrims along the route from Baghdad to Mecca and Medina, which is also known as Al-Kufi pilgrimage route. The Zubaydah Archelogical pool is very old and was built for the pilgrims who were crossing Darb Zubaydah from Iraq.

Landscape

Next to the pool are ruins of old cities and fortresses; however, exploring the place can be tricky and should be done in hiking boots. The main road to the pool is also not paved and can get extremely muddy whenever it rains. Therefore, it is advised to check the weather forecast before going and go on a 4x4 vehicle if you want to preclude the possibility of your car breaking down.

The pool is a fascinating site to visit; however, the area still needs some maintenance and good management to make it tourist-friendly. Because of an extreme lack of facilities, it is best if you visit during the day because the last thing you want is to get stuck on the unpaved roads during the night.

Al-Aqiq Pond is one of a series of ponds to collect rainwater on the path of pilgrims coming from Kufa to Mecca. It was built in places where rainwater was collected during the reign of Caliph Harun Al-Rashid during the Abbasid Caliphate, and by Zubaida, the wife of Caliph Harun Al-Rashid. Therefore, it was called Zubaida Ponds. It still benefits the people of the region. It represents a major source of water for them
