Aarif Fort is the oldest historical building in Hail city. It was built to protect the city from enemies. During Saudi rule, the fort was used for moon sightings and iftar cannon firing during Ramadan. Recently, the A'arif Fort was opened to tourists as a cultural heritage site.
Fort Aarif is a rectangular shaped castle that is built with mud and clay. It is located in the heart of Hail and was built in the 17th century AD. The fort occupies an area of about 440 square meters and is strategically located on top of a hill, making it visible from every point of the city. Located on top of Jabal Irf, the fort offers a magnificent view of the northern city.
The fort can be accessed through a gate on its southern side, where a small courtyard leads to the main entrance. Inside the fort you will find observation towers, windows, a living area, baths, a mosque and storerooms.
This castle is also notable for its large wooden doors with inscriptions engraved on them. Tourists can climb to the top of the castle to get a bird's eye view of the city and observe the farms, markets and neighborhoods around them.
