I am not the one keen at posting reviews but doing so for all those from Lahore who reside in Jeddah and miss traditional food.
Indian restaurants in KSA are managed by South Indians who know nothing about the North Indian cuisine like nihari. We are used to the Delhi delicacies that no one can match but with no choice available, decided to check “Ginger leaf”. Only consolation being the big name behind, “Hilton” and before there was an Iranian restaurant “Shahrzad” and I always enjoyed its fine dining.
Restaurant ambiance is the known “Hilton” legacy but the taste? And when we saw waitresses of different origin, wondered how will they understand the need? But they did. We were three families that means a bill of SR 3,200 plus SR 500 for the tip _____ we experienced not only the taste, being chartered accountants, recovered the value for money as well.
Everything was superb. Nihari, mutton chops, dhaba kebabs, bhuna gosht and the fish platter. Biryani was not good as the addicted taste of “Bombay or Sindhi biryani” can never be compromised. But for foreigners, biryani is recommended.
Nihari was something; not only the taste but the presentation. Meat was from the undercut part (bong) juicy and tender. The only problem that nihari was not sizzling that’s what the requirement is.
Ginger leaf was a superb dining experience and we remain grateful and committed to visit again, but next time ______ no cold nihari, please
