High-end hotel, recently renovated which reopened 1 or 2 years ago. The staff are the absolute highlight, incredibly friendly, helpful and ready to help - whatever you want or need.
We'd initially booked an Aquamarine Suite with plunge pool which was absolutely amazing (we had room 1202). We had a partial view on the village and mountains, which aren't that beautiful, but providing the advantage of late afternoon/early evening sun on your little terrace. These same rooms with sea view supposedly tend to get more shade earlier in the day. Very relaxing and enjoyable stay and highly recommend these suites to anyone. They are spacious for 2 with everything you need or want. Just want to call out the excellent rain shower.
However, we were then very lucky and grateful to receive a complimentary upgrade to the Diamond Suite (room 1302) on the 3rd floor for a couple of nights. A very spacious and luxurious suite which was an amazing treat. It has a larger plunge pool, a larger sun terrace and a gorgeous view on the bay and sea. A very nice gesture from hotel management!
Just to be clear, even without this upgrade, we would have given 5 stars for the luxurious rooms, privacy, the excellent plunge pools, the friendly staff, great breakfast, etc. The location is excellent - the beach, a dozen restaurants, 2 ATMs, 2 mini markets, 3 pubs, and a pharmacy are all located within a 5 to 10 minute walk.
In general, the food and drinks at the hotel are somewhat pricey. Eating out at one of the many seaside restaurants is far more economical. The hotel's food/drinks quality and service are great, but sometimes a beer is a beer and not really worth paying double the price, and sometimes when you're lazy it is. At least you have a choice. Breakfast is excellent, do not expect a continental type offering, but you can get a mix of healthy (yoghurt, avocado toast, fruit etc.) or not so healthy food that's mostly locally inspired. The croque monsieur is to die for but I only had it once for health reasons ?
The restaurant Galea is interesting. It offers a more refined experience than the local restaurants offering local Greek / Cretan and some international dishes. Not everything was to our taste, but it offered a nice and interesting alternative to the more regular offerings down at the beach. The beef was top notch and the red wine by the glass truly excellent. Agsin, the staff is excellent and takes care of you.
There is not much info on the hotel website when we booked, but there is a small but practical gym at the basement level. It has some cardio equipment, a bench and weights up until 2*8 kgs. There's also a spa with all kinds of services. The friendly attendant allowed me free use of the sauna when there were no other (paying) guests in the spa, but only near closing time.
In summary, we highly recommend this adult only hotel for its excellent facilities, service, and location. It's worth it, believe me.
