Description

Location and History

The Murabba Historical Palace, also known as the Qasr al Murabba, which means 'the square' in Arabic, is located in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. To be exact, it is located two kilometers to the north of the old city of Riyadh, about half a mile away from the Masmak fort.

History

The palace is known to be the first building to be built outside the old city's walls and was initially built by King Abdulaziz, who is known as the founder of modern Saudi Arabia. The construction began in 1936 and came to an end in 1945. At the time of construction, the palace was built as a residential place for the king's family and his court. As of now, it is one of the museums of the city.

Landscape and Architecture

The building is made up of several palaces used for different purposes. The cubic building had it all, ranging from residential buildings and service facilities to diwan of the king and a vast and breezy courtyard surrounding the building. Around the courtyard is a brick wall, having a total of nine gates. As of now, the main gate is the one on the southern side, as it allows a very short link to the nearby mosque.

There are many attractions in the museum that attract tourists, some of the most popular of which are the personal belongings of King Abdulaziz and photographs from meetings he conducted with prominent people from all over the world.

Whether a local or a tourist passing by, this IS the place no one should miss when in Riyadh. It is my 3rd visit at various occasions. The last one was during the winter season during which a selection of fancy restaurants open during Riyadh season 2022. A walk to remember indeed.

A beautifully restored Royal Palace with valuable historical photographs documenting the life of King Abdulaziz. Residents and visitors must make the effort and time to visit it.

Re-live the history. Very nice feeling of visiting the place where the King stayed. It's preserved very well. Some of the artefacts, one must go and see. It's an amalgamation of modern and the classic.
