Description

Masjid Al Jinn is a small mosque located near Jannat Al-Mualla in Makkah, Saudi Arabia. It is also known as the Mosque of Guards and the Mosque of Allegiance (Masjid al-Bayah) because of its Islamic significance. The Masjid is considered one of the oldest and most important mosques in the city.

Historical Significance

The place where Masjid Al Jinn stands has been mentioned in the Quran in surah (chapter) Al-Jinn. It is built at a point where a large group of jinns gathered and listened to the Prophet Muhammad’s Peace Be Upon Him (PBUH) recitation of the Quran. Later, when the Prophet met with these jinns at this place, they embraced Islam and promised their allegiance to him.

Structure

It was originally built in the 1700s as an underground mosque. Recently a minaret has been added to the mosque’s structure, transforming the architecture into a more angular and modern one. Today, the mosque has all the modern facilities, including an air-conditioned interior, water (wudu) stations, prayers carpets, and fans. The mosque has a wide praying area, although it is not very spacious. People living in the area come here to pray five times a day.

Location

The mosque is located on a busy corner of the city, with hotels surrounding it and Jannat Al-Mualla cemetery just behind it. Moreover, there are also public restrooms and retail stores nearby.

The mosque is open for prayers only. There are buses that regularly bring pilgrims here as they want to visit the mosque because of its Islamic importance and to pay respect to the memory of the Prophet (PBUH).
