Description

Khaybar Fort is located near the city of Khaybar in Saudi Arabia and is just a two hours’ drive away from Medina. The Fort is famous for the historical battle of Khaybar that took place here in 629 AD.

Importance in Islam and Architecture

The Khaybar Fort has a significant place in Islamic history as it is where the jews barricaded themselves during the famous battle of Khaybar. Muslims marched on the Fort and were able to force a surrender from the jews, which marked the end of the famous battle. The Fort is located on a hill and is surrounded by palm trees. The ruins of the Fort are a mixture of black stone (basalt) and mud. However, you can tell how majestic this Fort would have been in its heyday from the remnants.

Planning the Trip

Before visiting the Fort, it is important to check whether the site is going through any restoration work as the Fort had recently been closed down and cars had to be parked 1 km away from the Fort, meaning tourists had to hike to visit the castle. Tourists are often not allowed to go into the Fort and can only view it from the outside. However, for those who are able to embark on this adventure, it is recommended that you wear full sleeves along with a hat or a cap to avoid sunburn. Also, wearing suitable footwear will help make your hike through the rocky and uneven area much easier. There are no facilities near the Fort, which is why you should always keep a water bottle handy to stay hydrated.

Calling all adventure seekers and history buffs! Khaybar Fort beckons with a unique blend of physical challenge, ancient mystery, and stunning photographic opportunities. Gearing up for a climb to the ruins is just the beginning. The reward? Breathtaking panoramas of the volcanic landscape, dotted with the enigmatic keyhole pendants – silent sentinels from a bygone era. Exploring Khaybar Fort sparks the imagination, inviting you to ponder the lives and secrets of the civilization that built these 4500-year-old structures. But Khaybar isn't just a journey through time; it's a photographer's dream. The interplay of rugged stonework, dramatic desert vistas, and the geometric precision of the keyhole pendants creates endless possibilities for capturing captivating compositions. As the desert sun casts long shadows that dance across the scene, the ever-changing light transforms the landscape throughout the day. For those seeking unique and evocative imagery, Khaybar Fort delivers an unforgettable experience.

The fort area is closed for maintenance. Unfortunately, the security guard's behavior is unacceptable—he's being rude, abusive, shouting and unjustly threatening fines. Such actions of few people tarnish Saudi Arabia's image and could deter potential tourists, no matter how much is spent on promoting tourism. Positive testimonials from visitors have a far greater impact on attracting tourists. Government understands it very well but the people posted!

It's an amazing, must-see place. If you're history lover, then you're in the right place. This is almost 2000 years old fortress and one of the old civilizations. It was conquered by Muslims ☪️ Hazrat Ali (RA) was holding the flag, and he fought bravely against the Jewish army. I wish it was possible to live here 🤩 Visit only during the daylight, and you might need permission to visit this area. Worth the travel 🏰❤️

History- Battle of Khaybar  was fought in early 628 CE (7 AH) between the early Muslims, led by Muhammad, and the Arabian Jews living in Khaybar, an oasis located 150 kilometres (93 mi) from the city of Medina. Jewish tribes had arrived in the Hejaz in the wake of the Jewish–Roman wars.According to Islamic sources, the Jews at Khaybar had barricaded themselves in forts after breaching an agreement with the Muslims, following which Muhammad led an army to capture the oasis. The terms of surrender included the evacuation of the Jews of Khaybar from the area and the surrender of their wealth, in exchange for a cease of warfare by Muslims and not hurting any of the Jews. Beautiful location.........
