Description

Dumat Al Jandal Lake is an artificial lake and is considered as the largest lake in Arabian Peninsula and is a very popular destination among the locals.

Location and Landscape

The lake lies in the northern Jawf Region and extends over an area of 1 million square meters with a depth of 15 meters. Located in the middle of the desert, the blue lake provides a fascinating sight. Giant pumps have been installed to better distribute the lake’s water for irrigation purposes. Tourists can appreciate the wildlife including migratory birds, and fish. The region is also home to several historic sites such as the Omar Al-Khattab Mosque and the ancient Mared Castle which is 3-4 kilometers from the lake.

Activities and Facilities

Many water sports are available in the area including trekking, jet skiing, speed boat rides etc. The lake also holds a number of sailing competitions. The area is perfect for families to have a picnic or host a barbeque in summers. Tea, coffee and traditional food is available in stores lined up on the promenade. Toilets are available nearby and there is a walkway where tourists can stroll or jog. If you plan to stay at the lake till evening or are visiting after sunset, remember to take along some mosquito repellent.

One of the MUST place to visit if travelling to north of KSA. Lake is big. The speed boats is real fun. Stunning view of the city from the top of the mountain opposite. Boating time: 0600hrs—2000 hrs. 45 kms from Sakaka city. Ample parking. Half day trip. Visit to old city of Dumat-al-Jindal requires the other half day. Highly recommended if travelling with kids. ?????
