Description

Located in the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia, Al Qarah Mountain - Al Ahsa is just a 25-minute drive away from Al Ahsa National Park and is considered one of the most significant places in Al Ahsa due to its natural formations.

Landscape

The mountain is visible from a great distance because of its size and stands at the edge of Shadqam plateau, which touches Kuwait and Iraq from one side and Rub Al Khali desert from the other. Because of the sub-aerial weathering, over time, the mountain has developed a number of networks of caves and is distinguished by its remarkable shapes and narrow canyons. It is located between four villages and is accompanied by rivers and over 3 million palm trees.

In Al Ahsa, one can find archaeological evidence of some of the oldest settlements in the Arabian Peninsula that can be dated back to 5,000 BC. The temperature in the area usually remains mild through the year, with a gentle breeze blowing because of its geographical location.

Activities

There are three types of caves with tunnels inside the mountains that attract cavers and explorers. Renovations are underway in order to make the caves more accessible and tourist-friendly. There is also a museum known as ‘Land of Civilizations’, which was established to give a brief account of the legends and history of the ancient land.

Kids are allowed free entry, but anyone over the age of 13 has to pay an entrance fee to enter the museum. Moreover, there are tons of food options available nearby, so you don't have to worry about bringing your own snacks. Lastly, make sure that you wear your hiking shoes when you visit, so you don't have to worry about your shoes breaking down.

Ver nice place to be . It cold inside while outside is hot. It’s a one time visit place . The only concern is the charges are high - SAR 57. Even 25 SAR would been a reasonable price

Amazing experience in and around the biggest oasis in the world. A must visit and take some time to view the history of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

I visited the caves on a day trip from Jubail. The drive took about an 3 hours. The caves are well signposted and easy to find. I highly recommend the Cave at Jabal Al Qarah. It is a truly unique and amazing place to visit. The caves are massive and well-lit, with stunning rock formations that have been sculpted by nature over millions of years. The temperature inside the caves is cool and refreshing, even on hot summer days. The entrance fee is SAR50 (about US$13.32) for adults and free for children. This includes a visit to the Land of Civilizations museum, which tells the story of the human settlement in Al Ahsa region. The caves are located in the Al Ahsa oasis, which is the largest oasis in the world. The oasis is home to over 3 million palm trees and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. I spent about two hours exploring the caves. There are several different paths to take, so you can tailor your visit to your interests. I would recommend taking the time to explore all of the paths, as each one offers something different. I would definitely recommend the Cave at Jabal Al Qarah to anyone visiting Saudi Arabia. It is a truly unforgettable experience. Here are some additional tips for visiting the Cave at Jabal Al Qarah: Wear comfortable shoes that you can walk in. Bring a camera to capture the stunning views. Be aware of the heat and drink plenty of water. Respect the environment and do not touch the rock formations.
