Description

This beautiful site stands tall at the start of the road leading to the holiest city for Muslims, Makkah. Baab Makkah has witnessed hundreds of millions of pilgrims make their journey to the home town of the Prophet of Islam (PBUH). 

It is a three-arched gateway with a large turret on each side, providing support and entrance from Jeddah to Makkah. It serves as a historic monument in one of the oldest areas of Jeddah and has been preserved with great care since the 1940’s when the wall around Makkah was torn down. When you look at this majestic structure you can tell that it would have been impenetrable in its heyday.

If you are visiting from abroad, you should visit this neighborhood that has a soul that extends to about 3-4 neighborhoods with everything you may need. Scarves, thobes, dates, prayer mats, food items including herbs etc. it’s usually busy and is full of life and sometimes there would be festivals in the Balad area with food kiosks and lights.

Easy to walk from Historic Are and then catch a taxi also. Would be a good idea if the Authorities put up a plaque or something to make it easy for people to understand it’s importance.

In old age the way to Mecca was started from here in Jeddah so it is called Mecca gate or Baab Makkah. No tickets are required , situated near the busy road.
