Asfar (Yellow) Lake - Eastern Province

4.1Reviews

Description

Al-Asfar Lake, also known as the yellow lake, is a shallow lake in the wetlands located in Eastern Saudi Arabia. The lake is a spectacular sight surrounded by sand dunes which makes it one of a kind.

Landscape

This lake is surrounded by sand dunes, greenery and the flowing water makes it look like a view from a postcard. The area has become a habitat for many birds and animals. During the breeding season, winter birds come to the lake, providing a worthy sight.

Although reaching the top of the sand dunes can be challenging, the view from up there is serene and breathtaking. For people who want the experience of a desert ride in winter, a trip to this lake would be perfect. The lake can also prove to be an ideal place for camping or stargazing but visitors must come prepared because of lack of facilities in the area.

What You Should Know While Planning a Trip

The lake lies 130 km from Dharhan, and a 4x4 vehicle is recommended to reach the lake. It would be better to stick to the tracks that have been set up already as the roads can get tricky. Unless you have provisions to stay the night, day trips should not extend after too long after dark as it is secluded and travelling at night is not recommended. It is advisable to hire a tour guide to reach the lake safely.

There is stinking water all over the place and too many flies … the only good thing is that view looks nice after reaching at top and nice pictures come

Nice place to visit. Avoid in summer. Avoid night. Not ok for camping. Make sure to reach at the curve view. Remote area. No shops. Non 4x4 cars (SUV) can reach at the starting of curve and they can climb by foot. Sedans are not recommended at all.

Asfar Lake or sometimes called Yellow Lake Nice place to enjoy in winters with a lot of sand, best view is to go on top and sit relax the lake. Some parts are not clean but you can find a best place and it is not very crowded often. posting pictures for the best view of the lake.
